What this is
Sworn translation rules, certifying bodies, common rejections. The page does not constitute binding legal advice; for case-specific guidance, see our paid legal consultation service.
Why it matters for Pakistani applicants
Each Ukrainian procedure has a specific intersection with Pakistani documentation requirements — apostille via MoFA, HEC verification where applicable, sworn translation in Ukraine. Skipping any link in that chain produces refusal at the consular stage. This page describes the chain.
How we use this in practice
Our intake checklists reference this page directly. When we open a file, the steps described here are the steps we execute. Where the page is silent, we resolve case-by-case through the engagement.
All documents submitted to Ukrainian immigration authorities (DMSU, State Employment Service, consulates) that are not in Ukrainian must be accompanied by a certified Ukrainian translation. This is a non-negotiable requirement.
A 'certified Ukrainian translation' in the immigration context means a translation produced by a присяжний перекладач — a sworn (court-certified) translator registered with the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice. The translation must bear the translator's stamp and signature, and must be notarised.
An unsworn translation — even if produced by a professional translator, even if accurate — is not accepted by immigration authorities. The form requirement is separate from the quality requirement. Both must be met.
The translation must be of the apostilled version of the document, not a plain copy. The correct sequence is: obtain the original document, apostille it in Pakistan, then send it to Ukraine for certified translation.
Common errors: having the document translated before apostilling (the apostille text must also be translated); using a general translation agency rather than a certified court translator; failing to notarise the translation after completion.
For Pakistani documents, certified translators are found in Ukraine — not in Pakistan. Pakistani translation services, however professional, do not produce Ukrainian-jurisdiction certified translations. The translation stage happens in Ukraine, after the documents arrive.
